Weather and Climate
This is a fantastic animation that introduces your class to different types of weather and climates.
Once your class have finished they can complete the quiz to test their understanding.
Picture of Memories
Encourage your children to bring in a picture of them during particular weather or showing a particular memory from holidays etc. This is a great Show and Tell exercise and provides an opportunity for children to reflect on past events, discuss their experiences with other children in the class and answer questions. A great talking and listening exercise for Foundation Stage.
Weather Puzzle
Word puzzles are a great way to encourage and develop thinking skills. This puzzle, at this age group, would be most effective as an oral mental starter/ whole class activity as some of the words can be difficult. This puzzle gives simple clues to help the children determine weather-related answers. Not only does this game develop children’s vocabulary and reading skills, it also promotes enquiry. There are a variety of levels with different clues and if the child is unsure, the ‘HINT’ will give them a letter to help. The vocabulary alone will have your children asking all sorts of questions! Super resource provided by NASA!
Weather Pie
A creative way to show the different types of weather during an art lesson. Not only could you use this as guidance, but you could go further and add simple rhymes for each weather type. This weather resource is extremely visual and striking is very simple to create. It would be best to create the template and print it onto card. You could even save design time and print it onto blue card to enable more planning and concentration on the weather types. You could also create a weather symbols version. Spinning the arrow around the children can then talk about that type of weather.
