Paris, France - Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is a famous landmark that stands in the heart of Paris. It was built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel. Some people climb over 1,000 steps just to reach the middle of the building. Others take the easy way and use the elevator. It is said that on a clear day, people can see for over 40 miles across Paris from the top of the tower.

Eiffel Tower and Minecraft

New York, USA - Statue of Liberty
The statue was a gift from the French government for the 100th anniversary of America’s Independence. The Statue of Liberty was constructed in Paris, France. It took nine years before it was completed in 1884 after which it was sent to the USA in 214 crates.

New York, USA - Niagara Falls
Comprised of three waterfalls — American Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Bridal Veil Falls — Niagara Falls water stems from the upper Great Lakes and the river is estimated to be 12,000 years old.
The Falls were first discovered by French explorer Father Louis Hennepin in December 1678.
Despite myths to the contrary, Niagara Falls does not freeze in the winter.

Rome, Italy - Colesseum
The Colesseum was a roman amphitheatre that seated over 50,000 people. Gladiators would battle in the centre of the amphitheatre. It was built of concrete and marble and limestone.
Construction on the Colosseum was started in 72 AD by the emperor Vespasian. It was finished eight years later in 80 AD.
It was voted one of the new seven wonders of the world in 2007.

Agra, India - Taj Mahal
Often described as one of the wonders of the world, the stunning 17th Century white marble Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died during the childbirth of their 14th child.
Note: A mausoleum is a building that contains burial chambers (tombs) for the deceased. They can be large or small and are often created in honour of influential people.
The Taj Mahal was built using white marble and starting from 1632, took 20 years to build. It was voted one of the new seven wonders of the world in 2007.

China - Great Wall
The Great Wall of China was built to link existing fortifications into a united defense system and to keep invading Mongol tribes out of China. It is the largest man-made monument ever to have been built.
Just like a gigantic dragon, it winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 13,170 miles (21,196 kilometers) from east to west of China. The Wall we see today was mostly built during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644).
It was voted one of the new seven wonders of the world in 2007.
Rio, Brazil - Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer is a statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil that was built as a symbol of Brazilian Christianity. Cristo Redentor (as it is known in Brazil) keeps a watchful eye over the people of Rio de Janeiro. The Statue of Christ the Redeemer sits atop Corcovado 2,300 feet (700 meters) above the city.
Construction began in 1922 and took nine years to complete. The sandstone that was used to build Christ the Redeemer came from Sweden. It was voted one of the new seven wonders of the world in 2007.

Machu Picchu - Peru
Machu Picchu is located 7,000 feet above sea level and is nestled on a small hilltop between the Andean Mountain Range.
Built in the fifteenth century, Machu Picchu was abandoned when the Inca Empire was conquered by the Spaniards in the sixteenth century.
The complex of palaces and plazas, temples and homes may have been built as a ceremonial site, a military stronghold, or a retreat for ruling elites.
It was voted one of the new seven wonders of the world in 2007.
